World Kidney Day

Today is World Kidney Day and this year's theme is Living Well with Kidney Disease. This was the chosen theme in order to both increase education and awareness about effective symptom management and patient empowerment, with the ultimate goal of encouraging awareness and participation.

Throughout this day, we hope we can inspire patients that they can live well with CKD.

How does your kidneys keep you healthy?

  • They regulate fluid levels

  • Activate Vitamin D for healthy bones

  • They filter waste from the blood

  • Help direct production of red blood cells

  • Regulate blood pressure

  • Keep blood minerals in balance

What is Chronic Kidney Disease?

  • Chronic kidney disease (CKD) means your kidneys are damaged and losing their ability to keep you healthy.

  • In the early stages of the disease, most people do not have symptoms.

  • While dealing with CKD, wastes can build up in your blood and make you feel sick.

  • Problems with your body may arise like high blood pressure, anemia, weak bones, poor nutritional health, and nerve damage.

  • Untreated, it sadly could one may lead to kidney failure.
